| Years ago, Mrs. Pamela Wylam, an English lady, who adopted Sikhism
as the religion of her choice has rightly said, 'It is not enough to take
our children to Gurdwara and to imagine that they have understood the
prayers and have thus imbibed Sikhism. We must remember that a Gurdwara
building is not the heart and soul of our religion. It is only the outward
body. The soul is in the word of the Guru and in the practice of our principles.'
If we want our children to continue the glorious traditions of our religion,
there is a need to provide them exposure of the Sikh Value System, not
only through camps, seminars, and conferences, or Sikh literature, but
also to show by example in our own homes and in our daily lives the right
pursuit of the Guru's principles and teachings.
This Sikh Gurmat Camp is just an attempt to create a Sikh environment
for a week in the hope that such an environment will be continued after
the camp is concluded. Our camps can only give a glimpse of the Sikh way
of life and must not be mistaken as a solution to the problem.
Location:
This year the Sikh Gurmat Camp will be held at the
CUYAHOGA ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER
3675 Oak Hill Road
Peninsula, Ohio 44264
It provides a high quality air conditioned residential facility through which
the campers can explore environmental issue and creative learning opportunities.
We will try our best to organize as many sports events as possible.
